Whether you just bought a barn-find classic, you're taking your track car to the races, or you're moving a vehicle across the state, a car trailer rental is the most economical solution. However, towing a vehicle is different than towing a boat or a utility trailer. The weight stakes are higher.

Here are three critical tips to ensure your tow goes smoothly.

1. Watch Your Tongue Weight The most common mistake when loading a car hauler is weight distribution. You generally want about 60% of the load weight toward the front of the trailer (closest to your truck). - **Too far back:** The trailer will sway dangerously (fishtailing). - **Too far forward:** You will weigh down the back of your tow vehicle, killing your steering control. - **The Sweet Spot:** Load the vehicle engine-side forward and check that your tow vehicle sits relatively level.

2. The 4-Point Tie-Down Rule Never rely on the vehicle's "Park" gear or handbrake to hold it in place. You need to secure the vehicle at four distinct points (two front, two back). We recommend using axle straps or wheel nets rather than attaching straps to the frame or suspension, which can compress and bounce loose during the drive.

3. Mind the Approach Angle If you are loading a sports car or a vehicle with low ground clearance, the angle of the ramps is critical. If the angle is too steep, you will scrape the front bumper or exhaust. - *Pro Tip:* If the car is very low, try parking the tow vehicle on an incline (facing downhill) or putting blocks under the end of the ramps to decrease the angle of approach.
